Mosaad wins battle of Egyptians
Petros Tzamaloukas reports:
Egyptian Omar Mosaad was the winner
of Life Greek Open 2007 as he beat in the final compatriot
Omar El-Borolossy 11/9 12/10 11/9. The match was pretty
close and El-Borolossy could equalise 1-1 games but
a couple of close calls gave the second game to Mosaad.
The first and third were also very close.
In the finals day the gallery was full and with television
broadcast too. Before the final there was an exhibition
match between the two Greek champions Petros Tzamaloukas
and Fabian Kalaitzis on a very hot Athens night.
22 Jun:
On to the Semi Finals
Petros Tzamaloukas reports:
Semi finals today and the glass court in Zapeion is
ready to welcome the players and squash fans. Omar
Mosaad was too good for Tom Hoevenaars
and the same for Omar El Borolossy
against Morten Sorensen. Morten played
well in the first game but finally Omar prevailed easy
at the last two. Mastrostefano and
Hindle complete the semis list with
Tasker Grindley leaving Greece with
a good run from qualification.
Program on Friday starts at 21.00 with the Classic
Open final between Pana Vasiliou and
George Vafakos. The two semis finals
follow with: Omar Mosaad (Egy) - Luca Mastrostefano
(Ita) and Omar El Borolosy (Egy) - Bradley Hindle (Aus).
On Saturday at 21.00 there is scheduled a junior's
match and at 21.15 a match against the two Greek champions
Fabian Kalaitzis and Petros Tzamaloukas.

Qualifying
Complete
The qualification rounds finished yesterday at the
Athens club. Unfortunately none of the Greeks could
make it to the main draw but two of them lost at the
last round.
The most exciting match of all was between Chris
Tasker Grindley and Jens Schoor.
Chris was 2-1 games down and equalised at 2-2 before
being also down 7-10 at the final game. He won the
next 5 points in a row and got the place for the main
draw where he will face Greek No 2 and local hero
Petros Tzamaloukas.
Another exciting match was between Ben Ford
and Gilly Lane. Gilly took the first
game but after Ben found his rhythm in the hot and
bouncy court and finally prevailed 3-1.
Today the main draw begins at the club and from Thursday
matches will be moved to the glass court at Zapeion
Megaron. Greek champion Fabian Kalaitzis
faces Denmark's Morten Sorensen and
looks forward to a win in front of the Greek crowd,
who want the same for Nikos Moustroufis,
the wild carder, against Bradley Hindle
but with his task being more difficult. Look forward
to see also the first two seeds, Egyptians El
Borolossy and Mosaad.
